In Module 2, you were introduced to Collecting Perspectives, a value proposition for museums that focuses on the role of museums in showing us how our stories are told. Here you’ll find resources to help you adapt that messaging to your museum and share it with your community. The communications package includes the Collecting Perspectives graphics and messaging, as well as a how-to guide for creating customized social media posts using the free-to-use online graphic design tool Canva. The package provides the tools and resources to make the Collecting Perspectives campaign adaptable to your specific site.

Our Museums: Collecting Perspectives

We value museums because they make sense of the world around us. They collect our tangible and intangible heritage and invite us to share in the many stories they help tell. Their collections broaden, inspire, and facilitate a shift in our thinking, but the most important work of museums is in collecting perspectives: in showing us how our stories are told.

Here are some examples of Collecting Perspectives in action.

Science is a fascinating subject. It encompasses the knowledge and our current understanding of the world based on evidence. Science is ever-changing, and its theories are constantly reshaped as new things are discovered, but that’s what makes it so powerful. That’s why we collect perspectives on science to show how our understanding of the world constantly evolves as new evidence becomes available. See how you can learn more at reconsideringmuseums.ca

The diverse cultures are what makes Canada so special. We bring our cultures to everything we do and learn from the cultures of the people we interact with. When we collect perspectives from the diverse people who call Canada home today, we help current and future generations learn from each other. See how you can learn more at reconsideringmuseums.ca
